Fallout New California Crashing

To all of you good Samaritans out there:It's gotten to the point in my game of Fallout: New Vegas that I literally can't go 30 seconds without crashing. The game has consequently become unplayable. Any advice?Respectfully,Khanthrok1) verify the game cache:From the Library tab, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game cache.

Button.Steam will verify the game cache files (GCF's) - this process may take several minutes.Once the process is completed, the Check Window will automatically exit.2) If that doesnt work try a clean reinstall of the game.USe the add/remove programs feature of windows to do this.Make sure the entire fallout 3 new vegas directory is deleted before you reinstall the game. You can find the directory in your steam folder. According to the logs that windows generates which I often don't read, when this game crashes it's direct 3d9 crashing. Which happens in CoD Black Ops as well. And also Metro 2033I agree this game has a bunch of bugs, but I think a lot of the crashes are Microshaft relatedNo, it isn't.

The game's engine is not playing nice with DirectX. I have many games that never crash, not even after 5+ hours of gameplay at a time. Heck, I played Bioshock 2 for 10 hours in a sitting yesterday and it never had one issue.Posts: 3357 Joined: Sat Jul 14, 2007 5:08 am. I'm having the exact same problem and I've exhausted all the avenues. My drivers are all up to date, I tried a new load of the game, and my Windows 7 is only a few months old & the system was built on a gaming motherboard. So added junk running on my system, no mods.

This is a clean system with a clean load of the game. You are using an Alienware so you have pretty hefty system as well.So I searched on issues and I see that we have the same NVIDIA video board - a GeForce GTX 260.THIS is where the problem is - this game is just not made to work with this video card. It works great at first, but the longer you play the game the worse it gets. There are thousands of websites postings out there complaining about this game not playing well on certain NVIDIA cards, but the 260 seems to be the one that is more than powerful enough but just does not work with the game.I've tried comtacting the company on this matter but have not received any responses. This svcks. The NVIDIA card is good and the drivers are updated - the issue is on the game's side and the GTX 260.I can play Bioshock 2 for 8 hours straight without a glitch. But right now I can play about 2 minutes of this game before it crashes. The gameplay is longer if I don't run in the game and it seems to be worse in the night scenes.Posts: 3438 Joined: Fri Mar 30, 2007 4:42 pm. Try the fix in this post: worked for me! Just a heads up to anyone who's getting frequent crashes on an NVIDIA card. Try the fix in this post: worked for me! Now I can play Vegas for hours on end on my GTX260 without any crashing. To clarify: Go to your Nvidia control panel (by right clicking on your desktop and selecting it).Go to 'Manage 3D Settings' then choose the 'Program Settings' tab.Click 'Add', then browse to your New Vegas folder (Usually in your SteamSteamappsCommon folder), and add FalloutNV.exeScroll down to the 'Power Management Mode' option, and set it to 'Prefer Maximum Performance'.Click Apply, then Yes.Fallout New Vegas should hopefully not crash for you (at least not with the same frequency) anymore!THANK YOU!! This worked for me as well- random crashes every 2 - 20 minutes on a GTX 285 now appear to be fixed. I've now made Prefer Maximum Performance the default for all games to avoid this issue in the future.Posts: 3330 Joined: Sat Oct 27, 2007 8:58 pmDisplay posts from previous: Sort.
